La mejor escena de sexo: Julie Christie y Donald Sutherland en “Don’t Look Now”
Si cuando escuchas mencionar a Julie Christie piensas inmediatamente en sus últimas películas, tales como Finding Neverland o Troya, te cuento que te has perdido de mucho. Es mi caso. La señora Julie a estas alturas ya tiene sus 66 añazos, y bueno, el tiempo no pasa en vano, pero si revisas sus trabajos de los años 60 o 70, encontrarás que Christie poseía una belleza de esas que simplemente la hacen inolvidable. Ahí la podrán ver en el clásico Doctor Zhivago (1965) o en manos de Truffaut en Fahrenheit 451 (1966), y seguro en muchas más, que mi ignorancia me impide listar.
Otra de estas cintas en que la vemos en estado de gracia es Don’t Look Now (1973) donde hace pareja con Donald Sutherland. Recientemente “descubrí” esta película cuando revisé la lista de Las 50 mejores escenas de sexo. Como recordarán, en aquel post no incluí la escena de Don’t Look Now que resultó elegida como la número 1, ya que nunca la pude encontrar por más que busqué. Y busqué un buen rato. Pero ahora, suerte la de ustedes, podemos presentarle* tan esperada escena. Así la describen en IFC:
Christie and Sutherland start out in the bathroom — she’s in the bath, teasing him about encroaching love handles as he dawdles around in the buff. Later, lounging on the bed, they exchange kisses that lead to poignant, unplanned lovemaking, the scene intercut with shots of the two dressing for dinner afterward. In an interview with the Guardian, Sutherland suggested that the editing relieved any confrontational sense of scopophilia: “The audience never ended up being a voyeur, they watched a cinematic collage and were reminded of themselves.” But more than that, it all serves as a compelling rebuke of that old Hollywood standard for love scenes: the clinch that leads to the fade to black. “Don’t Look Now” is a reminder that everything that’s commonly omitted in movies and represented by a quick cut or a flash of darkness is just as much a part of the story, and of life, as the conversations and confrontations that follow.
